# MLP - Multi Level Play

Must have a PRO level subscription for MLP - Multi Level Play

## What is MLP?

MLP is a tournament where one team plays against another team. Teams can consist of 2 to 4 players. Each team will play a series of games against another team. A tiebreaker is available if necessary. The best team moves on in the bracket.

### Setting Up an MLP Tournament

To create an MLP tournament:

1. Create a new tournament.
2. Select one of the supported tournament formats:
 * **Single Elimination**
 * **Double Elimination**
 * **Set Schedule**
3. Under **Team Generation**, choose **MLP**.

## Court Setup for MLP

One of the advantages of the MLP format is that a single match can be played across multiple courts simultaneously. To help players find the correct court, we recommend using **Court Titles** to clearly label each court (for example, **Court A**, **Court B**, etc.).

> **Note: Court Titles require Warm Up Timers to be disabled.**

If you're using two courts for each team match, both physical courts should share the same Court Title. For example:

* Physical Court 1 → **Court A**
* Physical Court 2 → **Court A**

If you're using court tablets for scoring, both tablets should also be assigned to **Court A**.

> **Important:** The scoring method must be set to **Player's Choice**. This can be configured from **Remote Mode**, **Admin → Manage Courts**, or **Edit Tournament → Advanced**.

## Captains Lineups

#### What Are Captain Lineups?

Captain Lineups bring MLP-style strategy to Scoreholio by allowing teams to submit their lineups privately before each team match.

Once both teams have submitted their lineups, the player matchups are revealed and the individual games are automatically created. Organizers can choose whether only the designated team captain can submit the lineup or whether any player on the team can submit it.

### Setting Up Captain Lineups

1. Create a new tournament.
2. Under **Team Generation**, select **MLP**.
3. Toggle on **Captain Lineups**.
4. Choose who can submit the lineup:
 * **Captain Only:** Only the designated team captain can submit the lineup.
 * **Anyone on Team:** Any player on the team can submit the lineup.
5. Enable **Player Scoring**.

Player Scoring must be enabled for players to submit Captain Lineups. Once the lineups are submitted and the games are created, the games can be scored using either Player Scoring or court tablets.

### Assigning a Team Captain

1. From the Admin, open the **Players/Teams** tab.
2. Scroll down to **Checked-In Teams**.
3. Find the player with the crown next to their name. This player is the current team captain.
4. To change the captain, click the player you want to assign.
5. Select **Make Captain**.

The crown will move to the newly assigned captain.

### How the Captain Sets a Lineup

1. Open the **Dashboard** and select the court you're assigned to.
2. Tap **Start Game**.
3. Tap **Captain Lineup**.
4. Arrange your team's lineup.
5. Tap **Lock Lineup** to submit it.

Once both teams have locked their lineups, the player matchups are revealed automatically and you're ready to begin play.

## Scoring your MLP game

We **strongly recommend** using either **Score Tablets** or **Player Scoring** as your tournament scoring method. For MLP events with multiple matches happening simultaneously, **Player Scoring** is our preferred option because it provides the smoothest experience for players.

When players arrive at their assigned courts:

* **If you're using Captain Lineups**, submit and lock in the team lineups first. Once both teams have submitted their lineups, the player matchups will be revealed automatically.
* **If you're not using Captain Lineups**, players have two ways to begin:
 * **Assign all players first.** Players can assign everyone to their respective games before the team match begins, allowing the entire matchup to be set up in advance.
 * **Assign players one game at a time.** Players can simply start the first game, then assign participants for each subsequent game as they progress through the match.

Both approaches are fully supported, so organizers can choose whichever workflow works best for their event.

#### Submitting a Team Match

Once a team has clinched the match, the **Submit All Matches** button will become available.

The system automatically enables this button as soon as it is mathematically impossible for the opposing team to catch up.

If players would like to finish the remaining games, they are welcome to do so. The final games can still be completed and scored even after the overall team match has been decided.
