# Import League

Run a weekly league by importing players or teams into a new tournament each week.

An Import League uses a **new tournament each week**, with players or teams imported from the previous week's tournament. It is a different approach from [Set Schedule](/running-a-weekly-league/run-a-scheduled-league/set-schedule.md), which creates the schedule in advance.

## When to use it

The [Types of Weekly Leagues](/running-a-weekly-league/run-a-scheduled-league/types-of-weekly-leagues.md) guide describes the Import Method for leagues that need flexibility:

* Add or remove players or teams between weeks.
* Adjust formats or divisions from week to week.
* Run tiered leagues or promotion and relegation.

## Carry players or teams into the next week

Create the next week's tournament, then use the [Import Button](/run-a-tournament/run-a-tournament/players-registration-and-check-in/import.md) to bring in the players or teams you want from the previous tournament. This imports from another tournament; [Import from a Spreadsheet](/run-a-tournament/run-a-tournament/players-registration-and-check-in/mass-import-spreadsheet.md) is a separate feature.

## Choose what history to carry forward

Review the records, points and Game Log options for the type of league you are running.

The Game Log affects repeat matchups. Carrying it forward across weeks can stop new matchups from being assigned once a team has played every other team. Do not carry it forward automatically without considering how your league should handle repeat opponents.

For the weekly Switcholio/Blind Draw method using Seasons, the [existing league walkthrough](/scoreholio-seasons/track-points-across-events/switcholio-blind-draw-league-scoreholio-seasons.md) specifically says **not to import the record/points or leaderboard/stats each week**. Submit each tournament's results to the Season for the combined standings.

## Track points in a Season

You can combine an Import League with [Scoreholio Seasons](/scoreholio-seasons/track-points-across-events/what-is-scoreholio-seasons.md). Import carries participants between tournaments; Seasons combines submitted tournament results into season standings.
